 Bags of Love
"Championing the immediate needs of displaced children"
This Ministry began as a joint venture between the Women's Ministry Group and the Services Department of the Andover Seventh-day Adventist Church. It is part of a larger organization called It's My Very Own. We are in the process of organizing a local chapter that will serve Andover County.
Bags of love was created in response to the growing need of innocent children who are displaced as a result of their parents making wrong choices. These children who are removed by child protective services are victims of abuse and neglect. Often when authorities arrive the children must be removed and taken to a safe location. Usually this happens in the middle of the night. The children are terrified, and may take nothing with them. They lose their parents, their home, and all that is precious to them. The "Bags of Love" are intended to take care of the children's immediate, basic needs in their heartbreaking ordeal. They immediately receive a bag that is "Their Very Own" to help distract them from their fears.
The bags' contents are basic:
- toothpaste/toothbrush
- shampoo/soap bars
- combs/brush sets
- baby shampoo, diaper rash ointment, wipes
- deoderant, lip gloss, chapstick (for teens)
- toys for all ages/ headsets and radios for teens
- blankets/fleece throws (Sewing bee is working on these)
- Pens/pencils/notebooks/crayons/colored pencils
- journals/books
- coloring books/stuffed animals (preferably new)
We have an on-going need for donations of the items listed above. You can drop off your donations in the basket located in the foyer of the church.
